Alan Rogers Review of Camping la Cascade
La Cascade has a long season as it is at the heart of a popular skiing and cycling area. It is within sight and sound of the waterfall from which it takes its name. It is only 2 km. from Bourg-d’Oisans, which lies in the Romanche valley 725 m. above sea level, surrounded by high mountains. The area is a sun trap and gets very hot in summer. The site has 118 individual grassy pitches, 100 for touring units, all with 16A electricity, on mainly flat ground and of varying sizes. Although most are quite adequate, larger units are best sited near the entrance as the pitches and roads do become narrow. A number of large wooden chalets are available to rent.
The ski resorts of Alpe d’Huez and Les Deux Alpes are close by. The Alpe d’Huez road past the campsite with its 21 hairpin bends is revered by serious cyclists as it is often used as the King of the Mountain stage for the Tour de France.
Facilities at Camping la Cascade
Two heated sanitary blocks are of good quality with mainly British style toilets, washbasins in cabins and showers. Laundry facilities. Bar and snack bar (25/6-30/8). Fresh bread daily and takeaway pizzas (July/Aug). Good sized, heated and sheltered swimming and paddling pools (1/6-30/9). TV in bar. Chalets for hire (all year). WiFi throughout (free).
Directions to Camping la Cascade
From Grenoble take D1091 (previously N91) to Bourg d’Oisans, cross river bridge, after 730 m. turn left on to D211, signed Alpe d’Huez. Site is on right in 600 m.
