Alan Rogers Review
Camping La Bruyère is a quiet site 25 minutes’ drive from the city of Chambéry in the Rhône-Alpes region of eastern France. At the foot of the Chartreuse massif in Chartreuse Regional Natural Park, La Bruyère is in a prime spot for exploring this region of France on foot, bike or horseback. The park is crisscrossed by a network of waymarked trails, and you can see it all from the air in a hang glider. Follow the Route des Savoir Faire to find liqueur makers, cheesemakers, artisan glovemakers and more. Back on site you could try a game of boules, kick a ball, or just to relax among the trees. During the high season, you can tuck into the culinary specialties of the region at the on-site restaurant, try the fondue, tartiflette, diots and polenta. If you fancy a break from the site, there are number of restaurants within 20 minutes’ drive of La Bruyère.
Here you will find a top mix of urban and rural must-visits. Start with the spectacular Pas du Frou canyon, which you can take in on a cycle loop starting in Chambéry, head to Lake Bourget for sailing, swimming and scuba diving, visit the Musée de l’Ours des Cavernes and make your way to soak up the splendour at the natural circus and waterfall of Cirque de Saint-Même, all less than 35 minutes from La Bruyère. The shops, museums and restaurants of Chambéry are 25 minutes from La Bruyère, and the city’s Château des Ducs du Savoie is a must-see. The thermal baths and aquarium at Aix-les-Bains spa town are 40 minutes from the site, and Grenoble’s museums, galleries, shops, bars and restaurants are less than an hour away.
