Alan Rogers Review
This is traditional camping, but what fun. Choose from 350 well-shaded, flat, grassy informal pitches or an unrivalled position directly by the water with fantastic views over the lagoon to the towers in Saint Mark's Square. Huge ships pass within 50 metres of the largely unfenced water's edge, to the delight of children and adults alike, some caution must be taken in places. With water on three sides, there are welcoming cool breezes. The ferry to Venice is just outside the gate, so this is an ideal site for visiting the city. As a short-stay site, there are few luxuries, but a busy bar and restaurant are at the heart of the site, along with a small shop. We enjoyed the informality here, where you are left alone to either travel to Venice or just relax watching the sunset over the lagoon from your pitch.
Fusina offers a straightforward and keenly priced 20-minute ferry connection to Accademia, the cultural heart of Venice. Several site buildings, including some of the showers and toilets, were designed by the famous modern architect Scarpa. These are heritage listed and are visited by design students, although this listing makes their development and improvement difficult. The English language is used everywhere. Costs here compare very favourably with the Cavallino sites in terms of travel to Venice.
Modern, well-equipped facilities include units for disabled visitors, along with some existing older units. Many washing machines and dryers. Motorhome services. Shop (15/3-31/10). Restaurant. Pizzeria and beer garden. Very lively bar. TV with satellite. Small playground. Boat hire. Marina with cranes, moorings and maintenance facilities. Air-conditioned London "cyber bus". Bicycle hire. ATM. Torches useful. WiFi in some areas (charged). Bus stop outside reception and ferry to Venice close by.
Due to the early season visit of our assessor, the restaurant and London Bus were not open.
LocationFrom SSII Padua-Venice road follow site signs on road east of Mira, turning right as signed. Site is in Fusina at end of peninsula and is well signed. Keep a keen watch for brown camping signs for Fusina and ferry terminal. Link to campsite location map on google
