Alan Rogers Review of Camping du Lac (Arcizans)
Camping du Lac is located in a valley in the Pyrenees National Park with views of the surrounding mountains, ideal for those who want peace and quiet, and perfect for nature lovers. There are 90 shady grass pitches, 76 for touring, with 5/10A electricity and closely cut hedges. The swimming pool is fenced and gated. In high season, bookings can be made for a large range of activities including walking, mountain climbing, canoeing, rafting, paragliding, hang-gliding, mountain biking and fishing. The owners of this site have very high standards.
This campsite makes a good touring base, and possible day trips include the Col du Tourmalet with its steep roads and hairpin bends giving magnificent views to the tranquil yet rugged valleys of the Gave de Gavarnie and Cauterets. The Cirque de Gavarnie is well worth the effort, with gentle, level walking; it is breathtaking in early season when the waterfalls are at their best and the orchids are in flower. Many of the villages have weekly markets with local produce - the cheeses are not to be missed. Lourdes, 15 kilometres to the north, is a busy town with many well known shops and, of course, the religious sanctuary.

From Lourdes south through Argelès-Gazost on N21/D921. Take third exit on roundabout to St Savin/Arcizans-Avant. Through St Savin, follow signs to site.
