This attractively landscaped, terraced site (English spoken) offers stunning views across the lake to the hills beyond. There are 123 good sized pitches, 120 for touring, which are thoughtfully laid out and separated by young trees and flowering shrubs. Most have grass and hardstanding. Forty-five have their own water point and most have 10A electricity. The reception, bar/restaurant and the pool complex are at the top of the site with a gently sloping road down to the lower terraces and lake. At the lowest part of the site is a large grassy area next to the lake for sunbathing and activities. Twin-axle caravans are not accepted.

There is plenty to do in the area including touring the mountains and gorges of the Jura region on foot, by bike or car and there are interesting old towns with their markets offering local produce.

Facilities at Camping des Gorges de l’Oignin

Two modern, well equipped and clean toilet blocks with all the usual facilities. Washing machine and dryer (tokens). Shop, bar/restaurant, takeaway and TV room (all season). Outdoor, heated swimming pool, paddling pool and new lazy river (1/6-30/9). Play and sports areas. Pétanque. Swimming, fishing and boating on the lake (no motorboats). Free WiFi over part of site.

Directions to Camping des Gorges de l’Oignin

Matafelon is 40 km. east of Bourg-en-Bresse. Leave autoroute A404 at Nantua, exit 9 and turn right towards D18 road and continue to Matafelon (10 km). On entering village and opposite the Mairie turn left, signed camping, and descend to site (800 m).
