Camping de l'lle d'Or Amboise is situated on an island in the Loire opposite the town and has easy access for all size units. This is a large, two-star, municipal site with 300 pitches which are very generously sized, some very shaded by trees, some partially, and some totally open. There are also safari tents available to hire. Generally, motor homes seem to be allocated pitches nearest the entrance/exit. Three modern toilet buildings have all the usual facilities. The adjacent municipal swimming pool is free for all site users. Wi-Fi is free with coded access. Twin axle caravans are not accepted. The site reception is efficiently run, and English is spoken by most members of staff. Next door is a restaurant with decent fare and reasonably priced. Lunch, in town, at L'Horages is excellent value, very good food and service. The Spectacle at Chateau Close Luce (Saturdays and Wednesdays 10. 30 pm) is very good. If you go, book your tickets at the tourist office, not the chateau. They get an allocation of best position seats, so you have a central view.

Good cycling on the Loire velocity routes in both directions and both banks, plus plenty more. Kayak hire from Amboise, up or down river. With your own boat it is possible to return to the site from up-river embarkation but check out your exit point carefully as much of the bank running alongside the site is steep. The Leonardo 'home' (close Luce) is well worth a visit with dozens of working models of his inventions. Fascinating for kids as well as adults. 3 kms out of town. If you want to use a satellite dish, make this request when booking in as pitches are allocated to make sure that you get a more open pitch. Electric points are convenient to most pitches. They are rated at 10 amps and some use two pin continental connector so you may need an adaptor. You may also find reverse polarity, but it is not universal.

Bread to order. Shops and supermarkets nearby. Dogs allowed. Nearby is a swimming pool with water slide, mini golf, tennis courts, playground for children, a canoeing club, table tennis, sports fields, a fitness circuit and a bicross/mountain bike circuit. Twin axle caravans are not accepted.

Directions to Camping de l’lle d’Or Amboise

From the A10/E5 take exit 18 and join the D31 in the direction of Autrèche and Amboise. Stay on this road towards Amboise and at the junction with D952 turn right towards Amboise. At the river bridge and turn left to join D431 and halfway across on the island, turn left again and the site is on this road.
