Close to both the sea and the centre of the little village of La Bernerie, les Ecureuils is a pleasant and spacious family run site. The sandy beach here is great for children; swimming is restricted to high tide, since the sea goes out a long way, although at low tide a shallow lagoon remains which is perfect for young children. The site has 170 touring pitches, all with 10A electricity close by and 19 with their own water tap and drain. There are also 89 mobile homes and chalets for rent and a further 50 privately owned.
The village has several shops, bars and restaurants, and a sailing school. The fishing port of Pornic is a short drive away and is well worth a visit; it has a busy marina and a factory shop selling a wide range of Breton pottery and souvenirs. To the south is the Ile de Noirmoutier with good beaches and pretty villages. To the north, across the Saint-Nazaire bridge, is the sophisticated resort of La Baule, the historic town of Guérande with its medieval walled city, and its salt marshes producing the well known Sel de Guérande.
