Camping Bagatelle

Open all year, Camping Bagatelle is a combination of a city campsite, backpackers’ hostel and restaurant. It may be a bit noisy because of its location at the edge of the town — the city sights are just across the bridge. From the restaurant and terrace there are good views across the river of the historical Papal Palaces and the city walls of Avignon. There are 227 shaded gravel pitches, all for touring, 140 with 6/10A electricity (long leads required) and suitable for larger outfits. The site is a little hard to find and one must be very careful to follow the signs.

Bagatelle is a family concern, one of the owners manages the whole complex, two sisters run the restaurants and the hostel and a daughter manages reception and information. She is helpful, friendly and speaks English.

Facilities

Two toilet blocks which although quite old, are well equipped and kept very clean. One is heated in low season and is being slowly renovated. It is near the touring pitches. The second block is near the hostel. Private bathroom (key at reception). Heated baby room. Accessible facilities. Good shop. Two restaurants and a bar with counter meals (all year). Extensive tourist information and booking of city sightseeing at reception. Playground. Motorhome services. Occasional organised activities. WiFi in reception and bar areas (free).

Location

From autoroute A9, exit 22 take N580 to Avignon Centre. Follow signs for Barthelasse, then Camping Bagatelle. Alternatively, from autoroute A7, exit 23 then D942 to Avignon Centre. Follow signs for Barthelasse, when across river follow signs for Camping Bagatelle (the latter is a more difficult route). Use co-ordinates for satnavs, not address.
