Alan Rogers Review of Camping Aranjuez by Samay
Aranjuez, supposedly Spain’s version of Versailles, is worthy of a visit with its beautiful palaces, leafy squares, avenues and gardens. This useful, popular and unusually well-equipped site is therefore excellent for enjoying the unusual attractions or for an en-route stop. It is 47 km. south of Madrid and 46 km. from Toledo.
The site is alongside the River Tajo in a park-like situation with mature trees. There are 162 touring pitches, all with electricity (16A), set on flat grass amid tall trees. The site is owned by the owners of la Marina (ES87420) who have worked hard to improve the pitches and the site in general.
Two tourist road trains run from the site to the palaces daily in high season with one a day (not Mondays) in low season. You can visit the huge, but slightly decaying, Royal Palace or the Casa del Labrador (translates as farmer’s cottage) which is a small neo-classical palace in unusual and differing styles. They have superb gardens commissioned by Charles II. Canoes may be hired from behind the supermarket and there is a lockable moat gate to allow access to the river. There is good security backed up with CCTV around the river perimeter. Aranjuez is half an hour by regular train service from the centre of Madrid.
