There are several other sites in the Wiedtal Valley, most full of residential or long stay units and visually unattractive. Camping am Strandbad is more appealing and benefits from being only a short, level walk from the small town of Waldbreitbach and its amenities. It is located on the inside of a bend in the River Wied and the touring pitches are all on open grass. Flooding during the winter months can sometimes occur. With a total of 170 pitches, 50 permanent and seasonal units, there are 120 pitches for tourers all with electricity (16A), although some will need very long leads. Swimming is not permitted in the river.
There is a separate small area for motorcyclists and tents. Adjacent to the site is the little municipal outdoor swimming pool and a very nice woodland adventure playground. Reception is in the well stocked little shop by the main entrance (open all year). A little English is spoken.
Facilities at Camping Am Strandbad
A traditional building with a more modern heated interior provides all facilities including some washbasins in cubicles and showers (on payment). Accessible facilities, Washing machine and dryer. Shop. Bar/snack bar. Swimming pool (25x10 m; June-early Sept). Adventure playground. Torches recommended.
Directions to Camping Am Strandbad
From Neuwied (northwest of Koblenz on road 42) follow minor road to Waldbreitbach (16 km) passing through Altwied and Neiderbreitbach. All campsites on this route are numbered, on entering Waldbreitbach ignore no. 4, Strandbad is no. 5.
