Alan Rogers Review of Les Routes de Provence
Although Les Routes de Provence is an urban site, there are extensive views over the surrounding countryside where there are some excellent walks. The 72 touring pitches are on grass and of a good size, all with electricity, six fully serviced (long leads may be needed). The site is secure, with an electronic barrier (card deposit required) and there is no entry between 22.30 and 07.00. This is an excellent base for visiting Forcalquier, a 15th-century fortified hill town, and the Monday market (the best in Haute-Provence). Local guides lead tours of the historic town and area. Previously known as Camping de Forcalquier.
You can be sure of a friendly welcome from the managers at reception where good English is spoken and a wealth of information is available for activities and places to visit in the area. Their policy is that tourists should not feel they have to stay at the campsite to be entertained but should instead venture out and explore the many and varied attractions within the region. The walk up to the citadel is worth the effort for the stunning panoramic view. The splendid bar/restaurant with its terraced outdoor seating area is an ideal place to relax after an exhausting day out, or one could cool off with a refreshing dip in the adjacent pool.
Facilities at Les Routes de Provence
Three modern toilet blocks with washbasins in cubicles and excellent accessible facilities. Motorhome services. Bar (all season). Snack bar and takeaway (July/Aug). Heated swimming and paddling pools (May-Sept). Play area. Boules. Basketball. Range of activities in high season, often involving local people, including food tasting and storytelling. Max. 1 dog. WiFi in the central lodge (free).
