Alan Rogers Review of Watertop Farm Campsite
Watertop Farm Campsite is a traditional, family-run working hill farm located in the stunning Glens of Antrim, Northern Ireland. Situated just 6 miles (about a 10-minute drive) outside the seaside town of Ballycastle, it is located right on the edge of the Ballypatrick Forest and acts as a gateway to the spectacular Causeway Coastal Route.
The site spans a large Area of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) family farm home to over 400 sheep, cattle, and horses. To maintain a relaxed, non-crowded atmosphere, the campsite caps its capacity and splits pitches into three distinct areas, ensuring nobody is more than a 3-minute walk (250 meters) from the central amenities block.
On site you will find 13 touring pitches, of which 7 are all-weather concrete pitches with gravel awning space fully serviced with 10AMP electric hook-ups, freshwater access, and grey water drainage. Located right on the doorstep of peaceful river and woodland walks.
The Cottage Museum: A massive favourite for campers on damp Irish evenings. It’s an authentic, historic farm cottage where guests are welcome to gather, light a traditional turf open fire, and toast marshmallows. One of Watertop’s biggest selling points is that you can hike for miles without ever encountering traffic. Over 5 miles of private gravel farm paths offer panoramic hill views, including a designated Waterfall Walk.
Loughareema (The Vanishing Lake). Campers have an exclusive, direct walking route straight from the farm to one of the UK's most unique geological anomalies—a lake that naturally drains empty and refills through underground chalk tunnels.
The farm sits down a long, steep hill off the main road. Because you are deeply rural, it is highly recommended to stock up on groceries in Ballycastle before driving down.
