Alan Rogers Review of Ulvik Fjord Camping

Ulvik was discovered by tourists 150 years ago when the first liners started operating to the head of Hardangerfjord. This pretty little site is 500 m. from the centre of the town. It occupies what must once have been a small orchard running down to the fjord, beside a small stream. There is room for about 80 units, 32 with electricity connections, and six cabins, all on undulating ground that slopes towards the fjord and a sheltered area for boating, fishing and barbecues. The site is linked to a hotel, and campers benefit from access to its facilities.

To this day, a regular stream of cruise liners work their way into the very heartland of Norway. A century and a half of visitors has meant that Ulvik is now a well-established tourist destination, describing itself as ’the pearl of Hardanger’ – it even has its own conference centre – but, with only just over 1,000 inhabitants, it still manages to retain an unspoilt village atmosphere.

Facilities at Ulvik Fjord Camping

Reception is at the hotel opposite and campers are welcome to use the facilities here. On the site, a small wooden building houses the well kept sanitary facilities. For each sex there are two open washbasins, WCs and two modern showers on payment. Accessible facilities, Kitchen with cooker and sink. Washing machine. Boat slipway, fishing and swimming in fjord. Jetty with large barbecue area.

Directions to Ulvik Fjord Camping

From the bridge carrying the Rv 7 north over Eidfjord, turn right at roundabout in the tunnel towards Ulvik on road no. 572; the site is on the southern side of the town, opposite the Ulvik Fjord Hotel.
