Alan Rogers Review of Sandviken Camping
Sandviken is a delightful, family run site in a scenic location, suitable for exploring Hardangervidda. Remote, yet with good access by road, it has its own shingle beach at the head of the beautiful Tinnsjo Lake. It provides 150 grassy, mostly level pitches, many with spectacular views along the lake. Most have electricity (10/16A), and there is an area for tents along the waterfront. Activities on site naturally include swimming, fishing and excellent facilities for launching boats. The modern reception building houses a small shop selling confectionery and essential supplies. Bread can be ordered daily and takeaway food is available.
Sandviken is ideal for a restful stay or as a base to explore the region. A 1 km. stroll takes you to the village, which has a mini-market, bakery, bank, garage and post office. Hardangervidda, Norway’s largest National Park, is close and offers special methods of ascent and descent. From the Vemork suspension bridge is Norway’s highest permanent bungee jump! Visitors can ascend to 886 m. on Hardangervidda using the Krossobanen cable car, which operates all year from Rjukan and, unusually, an ascent of Gaustatoppen can be made by an underground train from Rjukan.
Facilities at Sandviken Camping
Two heated sanitary blocks include some washbasins in cubicles, showers on payment, sauna, solarium and a dual-purpose accessible/family bathroom with ramped access and baby changing. Kitchen and laundry rooms (hot water on payment). New, smaller unit with kitchen, TV and dining area overlooking the lake. Motorhome services. Reception with kiosk, bar and takeaway snacks. Two playgrounds. TV and games room. Minigolf. Trampoline. Beach volleyball. Mini football. Fishing and watersports. Boat hire.
Directions to Sandviken Camping
Easiest access is via the Rv 37 from Gransherad along the western side of the lake to its position at the northern end.
