De Kluft is located on the border of the two Dutch provinces of Friesland and Overijssel at the heart of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park. It is attractively situated with most of the pitches being along open waterways. The site has a very impressive range of amenities including a marina, hotel, restaurant and lodges. One area of the site is close to the marina and canoes, electric boats, rowing boats and bicycles can all be hired. Most of the 180 touring pitches have a view across the water (drainage variable) and all have electrical connections (6A). Children will be entertained by a very well designed play area, and at the small beach by a natural lake that is suitable for swimming.

A canoe school for all ages, run for but not by the site, conveys all the essential techniques of the sport. The large restaurant serves excellent meals and specialises in local cuisine. There is a great deal to do in the area, including hot-air balloon trips over the park and special nature excursions into the park. The surrounding countryside is heavily forested and there are many excellent walking and cycle routes. The site managers will be pleased to make recommendations.

Five modern toilet blocks are spread over the site. They are clean and well maintained with showers (on payment) and good provision for children and accessible facilities. Motorhome services. Shop for basics (May-Aug). Restaurant and snack bar (open all season). Swimming in river and lake. Play area. Canoe school. Fishing. Bicycles, canoes, kayaks and sloops for hire. Hotel with eight rooms. Lodges to rent. Free WiFi over site. Group accommodation.

Directions to Recreatiecentrum De Kluft

From A6 motorway take exit 15 (De Munt) and follow N331 and N352 towards Wolvega. Turn right in Kuinre and after 1.5 km. left to Ossenzijl (5 km). If approaching on A28/A32 motorways, use exit 7 (Steenwijk-Noord) and follow the N334 and N371 to Oldemarkt and then Ossenzijl. In Ossenzijl the site is clearly signed.
