Alan Rogers Review of Parc de la Côte Sauvage
Set amongst terraced woodlands and with direct access to sandy beaches on both the open sea and the more protected Bonne Anse, this large campsite has 200 touring pitches of varying sizes. Some are randomly set amongst the trees and bushes on sandy grass, others, larger and well defined, offer more open aspects and are interspersed with chalets and mobile homes, many available to rent. Côte Sauvage has access to the many country cycle and walking trails in the area and is next to the lighthouse of Pointe de la Coubre.
The charming town of La Palmyre has many restaurants, bars and shops and its zoo, the second largest in France, is very popular. The Forêt de la Coubre stretches north to the estuary of the River Seudre, where the town of La Tremblade is a starting point for some excellent boat trips and for an excursion on a steam train past oyster beds to Mornac-sur-Seudre or on to Saujon. Further inland, the forest offers a range of activities including an amusement park, an aerial adventure park, paintball and quad biking centres, and riding stables.
