Alan Rogers Review of Öko-Park Camping

Öko-Park Camping is close to the Baroque style town of Eger, on the edge of the protected Bükk National Park. Buildings on the site are all made of natural materials and there is a well used for watering the plants. Öko-Park has 45 pitches off a single gravel access lane that runs to the back of the site. The grass pitches are level, marked and numbered. All have 16A electricity and are in the shade of mature trees. There is a small adventure park on site with climbing wall, tree-path and waterfall. The disadvantages are a road running alongside, a railway to the back and pitches which may be small for larger units.

A pond is at the rear of the site and a covered picnic area with a kitchen for campers and a barbecue area are in the centre. To the front of the site is the ‘Panzió’ where breakfast is served and which also serves as a bar and restaurant. Being in the hills means the site has a sub-alpine climate, which can be welcoming in the hot Hungarian summers. The area around Eger is of outstanding natural beauty and Eger itself is famous for ‘Bull’s Blood’ red wine and its castle.

Facilities at Öko-Park Camping

One good toilet block to the front provides toilets, open style washbasins and preset hot showers. Baby bath and changing mat. Basic accessible facilities. Washing machine and spin dryer. Campers’ kitchen. Restaurant with bar for breakfast and dinner (all year). Climbing wall. Playground on gravel. Eco tours, walks and wine cave visits organised. Bicycle hire. WiFi on part of site (free).

Directions to Öko-Park Camping

From Budapest, follow M3 motorway east and take exit for Eger. Follow to Eger and, from there, the 25 road north towards Szarvaskö. It is the second site on the right.
