Alan Rogers Review of Odda Camping
The industrial town of Odda is bordered by the Folgefonna glacier and the Hardangervidda plateau. This site has been attractively developed on the town’s southern outskirts. It occupies 2.5 acres of flat, mature woodland divided into small clearings by massive boulders. Access is by well tended tarmac roads that wind their way among the trees and boulders to 55 touring pitches including 36 with electricity. The site fills up in the evenings and can be crowded with facilities stretched from the end of June to early August. It also operates a motorhome facility on the quay in Odda for 40 units (coin-operated payment).
The site is just over a kilometre from the town centre, on the shores of the Sandvin lake (good salmon and trout fishing) and on the minor road leading up the Buar Valley to the Buar glacier, Vidfoss Falls and Folgefonna ice cap. It is possible to walk to the ice face but in the later stages this is quite hard going! At the turn of the century, Odda was one of the most popular destinations for the European upper classes – the magnificent and dramatic scenery is still there, together with the added interest of the industrial impact which is well recorded at the industrial museum at Tyssedal.

A single timber building complex at the entrance houses the reception office and the sanitary facilities, two WCs, and three open washbasins. Two unisex hot showers (on payment). Accessible facilities, Laundry. Small kitchen. Mini shop. Bread to order. Bicycle hire. WiFi (charged). Cabins to rent.
