Alan Rogers Review of Moreton Camping & Caravanning Club Site
Moreton Camping & Caravanning Club site is in the heart of Wessex and surrounded by an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Close by is the sleepy village of Moreton to enjoy a cream tea in the tearooms at the old school. Thomas Edward Lawrence, popularly known as “Lawrence of Arabia” is buried in the church here. Moreton station, next to the campsite, is on routes to Weymouth, Poole and Bournemouth. The bus stop, half a mile from site, will take you to the pretty county town of Dorchester where you can enjoy a number of walking trails including the Thomas Hardy trail and the Roman Town Walk. The town’s Borough Gardens have tennis courts, bowling green and a children’s play area and is host to a number of events throughout the summer including live bands and a teddy bear’s picnic. The site has 120 grass or hardstanding pitches, most with electric hook-up, is open and spacious with a good range of facilities. There are also 5 safari tents available to rent.
Non-members are very welcome and may join on site. Please speak to site staff for details and to check pitch availability before arrival.
Moreton village forms part of the 'Lawrence of Arabia Walking Trail'. The walks take in Bovington, Clouds Hill, Moreton Church and Lawrence’s grave. Other attractions in the area include the Tank Museum at Bovington, Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre in Wareham, Lulworth and Corfe Castle. For the best beaches, head to the circular Lulworth Cove, Kimmeridge Bay – great for rock pooling and swimming – and the Blue Flag beach at Swanage.
