Alan Rogers Review of Loch Ken Holiday Park

Loch Ken Holiday Park is a very well maintained site on the shore of the loch, opposite the RSPB bird reserve and the Galloway Forest Park – it is a peaceful haven in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

This is a family-owned park with 40 touring pitches and 34 caravan holiday homes, 11 of which are to rent. The touring pitches, all with 16A electricity, are separate and are arranged in an open plan way with loch views, on good sized hardstandings, with three on neatly mown grass. There is a separate tent field offering some pitches with electricity. Mature trees border the park and provide an area for walking dogs.

Site lighting is minimal so torches are advised. The spacious reception and well stocked shop are centrally located with a separate, well presented tourist information area. There are facilities for launching small boats, but these must be registered with the local council (at reception). This park is probably mostly suited to couples and families with older children who enjoy outdoor pursuits.

Facilities at Loch Ken Holiday Park

The heated toilet block has been completely refurbished to modern standards and was exceptionally clean when we visited. Separate facilities in a modern prefabricated unit are provided in the tent field. Accessible Facilities. Laundry room. Gas supplies. Well stocked shop. Two play areas. Outdoor chess. Herb garden. Bicycles, canoes, kayaks, pedaloes and dinghies for hire. Boat launching (permit from reception). Fishing (permit). WiFi (free).
