It is unusual to find a good site in a city, but this large, neat and tidy site is one. It is far enough away from roads and the airport to be reasonably peaceful during the day and quiet overnight, and has 157 touring pitches. It is set in a mainly open area with tall trees and attractive flower beds, with some chalets and ‘trekker’ cabins to rent in the adjoining woodland, home to shoe-stealing foxes. The individual, numbered, flat grassy pitches are large (at least 100 sq.m), all with 16A electricity and five on hardstanding, arranged in several sections.

There is a separate area for young people with tents. Three central points supply water and barbecue areas are provided. Children of all ages are well catered for with forts and an ultra-modern climbing frame on sand, a super-swing and an enclosed court with tennis, football and basketball. A modern restaurant and a snack bar provide breakfast, lunch and supper. A popular site, it is best to arrive early.

Directions to Knaus Campingpark Leipzig Auensee

Site (not well signed) is 6 km. from city centre in an area called Wahren. Best approached from A9 exit 17, turning towards Leipzig on B181 Merseberger Str. After 8 km. turn left on Ludwig Hupfeld. At T-junction, turn left across a railway and immediately right. After crossing two canals, site is on left in 100 m.
