Alan Rogers Review of Happy Jakes Caravan Park
Happy Jakes is a rural quiet site with 30 touring pitches, one fully serviced, super pitch for an RV-type vehicle, and 15 pitches for tents. There are also two furnished Pod's available for rental. The site name reflects that of the owner’s little boy, who inspired them to create a campsite with facilities for visitors with disabilities, and many of the features were created with children in mind. An example of this is ‘Rachel’s Walk’, a sensory experience for campers who are blind or partially sighted. This relatively new site is thoughtfully laid out, there is level access throughout and improvements are constantly being made. The owners Mark and Mandy live on-site and personally manage the site.
The site is a good loaction to visit the Vale of Glamorgan, Breon Beacons, The Gower Peninsular and Barry Island. There is a direct train link from Llantwit Major (2.5 miles away) to the city of Cardiff. Covering 10 acres, the site is well laid out, spacious and level with pitches generous in size. Pets are welcome to stay free of charge and an excellent dog walk is provided plus a shower at the rear of the toilet block to give them a wash and brush up. There is some aircraft noise from the nearby airport. Access to the site is good and the site is open plan, with clear information on pitches, if reception is closed. Facilities are kept clean and tidy. Local shops and supermarkets in Cowbridge and Llantwitt Major.
