Occupying a prime position in a wooded valley alongside the River Exe, within the National Park, Exe Valley Caravan Site is ideally situated for visiting Tarr Steps, Dulverton, the North Somerset coast and many other beautiful places in the area. This quiet, adult only, four-acre campsite is owned and managed by Paul and Christine Matthews and their excellent wardens. Set beside the River Exe, or the millstream, there are 50 large pitches (mostly grass but with some hardstandings at the top end and one near the entrance), of which 47 have 10A electricity and TV hook-ups (cable provided on loan). Reception is now at the entrance. The owner’s home is an old mill, complete with working water wheel and millstones, that opens to visitors most Sundays at 10 am.
CCTV has been installed, so campers may watch the bat colony in the loft from a screen in the mill. A small shop run by the wardens stocks local produce and some camping requirements. Fly fishing along the River Exe is possible from the site or at Wimbleball Reservoir, just over four miles away. This part of Somerset is a haven for walking, cycling, pony trekking, or as a place to just sit and relax.
Facilities at Exe Valley Caravan Site
The refurbished toilet block houses the usual facilities and an en-suite accessible sanitary room (short steep ramp to enter). Excellent laundry with domestic washing and drying machines, plus a microwave and freezer. Motorhome services. Small shop. Bicycle hire. Gas supplies. Free fly fishing. Free WiFi.
Directions to Exe Valley Caravan Site
Bridgetown is roughly midway between Dunster and Tiverton on the A396. On entering Bridgetown from Tiverton, look for site sign and turn left on minor road. Site is 50 yds. on the right.
