Located in a peaceful valley with magnificent views of the mountains beside the Saja River and only a short walk from the picturesque and unspoiled village of Sopeña, this gem of a site is on an open, level, grassy meadow with trees. Wonderful stone buildings and artefacts are a feature of this unique site.

There are 102 marked pitches with 6A electricity, although long leads may be needed in places. This comfortable site is of excellent value and ideal for a few nights (or you may choose to stay longer once there) while exploring the Cabuérniga Valley, which forms part of the Reserva Nacional del Saja.

The area is great for just relaxing or for indulging in active pursuits with opportunities for mountain biking, climbing, walking, swimming or fishing in the river, horse riding, hunting, paragliding and 4x4 safaris. Although little English is spoken, you will receive a warm welcome here with friendly advice on how best to enjoy your stay. Sopeña Fiesta is in mid July each year.

A superb, spotless sanitary block provides spacious, controllable showers and hot and cold water to washbasins. Washing machines and free ironing. Accessible Unit. Baby and toddler room. The bar serves breakfasts and ‘bocadillos’ (sandwiches) and includes a small shop section. Wonderful playground in a rustic setting – supervision recommended. Fishing. Bicycle hire. Attractive stone cottages and apartments to rent. No electric barbecues. WiFi throughout.

Directions to El Molino de Cabuérniga

From A8 (Santander-Oviedo) take km. 249 exit and join N634 to Cabezón de la Sal. Turn southwest on CA180 towards Reinosa for 11 km. to Sopeña (site signed to left). Turn into village (watch out for low eaves/gutters on buildings) and continue with care on narrow approach road to site, following small site signs.
