Alan Rogers Review of Domaine le Chanet
Located in the heart of the Jura in the Loue valley on the edge of historic Ornans, this traditional site is on a fairly steep slope with terraced pitches. The area has plenty of outdoor activities, including canoeing and kayaking, mountain biking, caving and fishing. With 95 pitches (65 for touring), there are around 50 with electricity hook-ups (3-16A), including nine with multi-services. There are also 25 mobile homes, caravans or tents to rent on the site and three gîtes. Larger units will find access difficult.
A café and bar with an outside terrace are beside the freshwater eco pool and a paddling pool. A small shop, which is open all season, stocks basic needs, toys, postcards etc. Entertainment and a children’s club are arranged in the main season, and guided visits, caving and climbing and canoeing trips are also available. A path for cycling and walking leads along the old railway track from the town into the mountains for 10 km.
Facilities at Domaine le Chanet
Two toilet blocks, one at the rear of the reception building, include a baby room and facilities for children and accessible facilities. Small laundry area. Shop (all season). Café, bar and takeaway (seasonal). Heated outdoor eco-pool and paddling pool (seasonal). Sauna and gym (charged). Washing facility for caving suits and equipment. Games room. Play area. Boules. Bicycle hire. Safety deposit boxes. Entertainment and a children’s club in high season. WiFi on the part of the site (free).
Directions to Domaine le Chanet
From Besançon take D67 to Ornans. At first and second roundabouts continue straight on towards town centre. Take first right on D241 (Chassagne St Denis), cross river, follow signs and turn right by school. Continue for 500 m. and then fork right, site is on left.
