Alan Rogers Review of Domaine d’Anglas
In the upper Hérault valley to the south of the Cévennes mountains, Domaine d’Anglas is a delightful small site. The top part of the site is on quite stony ground with pitches divided by vines and mixed trees that provide a degree of shade. The lower part is more open with some mature trees, and pitches are not clearly divided but it makes a wonderful spot to camp. With 150 pitches in total, there are 70 for touring units. A stream runs through the site, dry when we visited, but it is quite possibly a torrent in winter time. Wooden bridges allow access to the toilet blocks on the other side.
The river is wide here and it is possible to swim and canoe. Carole and Roger Gaussargues, who have developed the site, also own the vineyard down the road and are very proud of their achievements. Reception has been traditionally built of local stone and provides a small shop, local wine etc. In high season and at some weekends, simple meals, pizzas and salads can be enjoyed al fresco. It can be very hot so the river is welcome to help cool off. Messing about in the river will keep children occupied for hours but there is a large playing field and a communal barbecue for those who have tried their hand at fishing. There are some log cabins to rent which fit well in the environment.

Two toilet blocks provide all necessary facilities. Baby bath. Accessible facilities. Washing machine. Shop for bread and simple needs. Takeaway food (July/Aug). Communal barbecue. Play field. Bicycle hire. Wine evening. WiFi (free).

From Montpellier follow the D986 north towards Ganges. After 40 km, just before entering the village of St Bauzille de Putois turn left signed Brissac. Cross the Hérault river over a narrow bridge and pick up site signs.
