A well established site in the Aude valley, Grand Sud is on flat ground beside a lake, 8 km. south of Carcassonne. There are 110 touring pitches with 40 used for mobile homes and chalets to rent. New pitches nearer the lake have less shade but the remainder are set amidst mature trees and shrubs that provide an attractive environment, if slightly less easy to access (6A electricity on 50 pitches). With two pools and access to the Aude for swimming as well, lake fishing and various sports, the site offers something for all the family. There may be some daytime noise from the busy D118 road.
The restaurant, run by Jean and Xavier, is open all day in July and August and in the evenings the rest of the season. Sporting activities are organised during the day and entertainment in the evening. The area has much to offer including visits to the medieval city of Carcassonne, the home of sparkling wine Blanquette de Limoux, the Castles of the Cathars, the Canal du Midi, and the countryside is well worth exploring.
