Alan Rogers Review of Camping Quinta da Cerejeira
This is a delightful, small, family-owned venture run by Gert and Teunie Verheij. It is a converted farm (Quinta) which has been coaxed into a very special campsite. You pitch where you choose, under fruit and olive trees on gently sloping grass below the house or on terraces beyond.
There is space for 30 units with 18 electricity connections (6A). It is very peaceful with views of the surrounding green hills from the charming vine-covered patio above a small swimming pool. A visit to Tomar to explore the temple and legends of the Knights Templar is highly recommended.
Nearby Ferreira do Zêzere has shops, bars and restaurants, whilst Tomar offers a wider choice along with its numerous historical and architectural sights.
Reception has information about walks in the surrounding countryside and drives to numerous interesting sites in the area, including the Sanctuary at Fátima and the Monastery at Alcobaça. Also recommended are visits to local vineyards and a picnic at the nearby lake, an extensive reservoir created by the damming of the River Zêzere, which offers a number of watersports and endless opportunities for walking, cycling and enjoying the natural surroundings.

The single rustic sanitary building has British style WCs with hot showers and pairs of washbasins in cubicles (cold water only). Washing machine. Accessible Facilities. Baker calls daily. Rustic room serves as reception and lounge with library, small kitchen and self-service bar (tea, coffee, soft drinks, bottled beer, wine). Swimming pool with terrace. WiFi in upper part of site (free). Three apartments to rent.
Directions to Camping Quinta da Cerejeira
Ferreira do Zêzere is 64 km. south of Coimbra. From Lisbon on A1 north take exit 7 onto A23 (Abrantes) then head north on A13 (Tomar) and northeast on N238 to Ferreira do Zêzere. Take N348 (Vila de Rei) and site is signed to left 1 km. from town (do not enter town). From north on A1 south of Coimbra take new A13-1 and A13 (Tomar). At exit 21 take N348 to Ferreira and then as above.
