Alan Rogers Review of Camping Prahljust
In a woodland setting, 600 metres high and well away from main roads, Camping Prahljust is a quiet site providing plenty of fresh air in an attractive location. The site slopes gently down to a lake that is used for swimming, boating, windsurfing and fishing, and in winter, ice skating.
Of the 400 pitches, 350 are reserved for touring units. These are arranged in larger, open, grass areas separated by hedges with plenty of tree cover and all have electricity connections. The Oberharz is a winter sports region and January and February are the busiest months, with cross-country skiing from the site.
During the rest of the year this attractive region has much to offer; rambling, mountain biking and rock climbing are all popular and the list of interesting places to visit is almost endless.
Early mining activity brought wealth to the region resulting in the development of many beautiful medieval towns with their half-timbered houses and impressive public buildings. The reception has a good selection of brochures on display.
Facilities at Camping Prahljust
Three older style, heated toilet blocks (one partly refurbished) have all the usual facilities. Showers are free. Accessible facilities, Baby room. Washing machines, dryers, drying room and kitchen. Motorhome services. Shop, restaurant and bar (closed Nov). Indoor, heated swimming pool (12x9 m; no shallow end). Playground. Sauna and solarium. Clubroom. Lake trail. Beer garden. Bicycle and kayak hire. There is also a small library with books (also in English) in reception. WiFi (free).
Directions to Camping Prahljust
Leave Clausthal-Zellerfeld on the B242 towards Braunlage. After 1 km. site is signed. Turn south and site is a further 1 km.
