The large, sandy beaches in this area are on offshore islands reached by ferry and are, as a result, relatively quiet. This site, on the edge of town, has around 600 pitches, all with 6A electrical connections available. Its many mature trees provide good shade. The pitches are marked in rows divided by shrubs, although levelling will be necessary in places and the trees make access tricky on some.
There is a separate area for tents and places for very large motorhomes. Seasonal units take up one-fifth of the pitches, the touring pitches filling up quickly in July and August, so arrive early. The site has a relaxed, casual atmosphere, though there is some subdued noise in the lower area from an adjacent railway. The amenities are also very popular with the local Portuguese who have access to them in high season.
The town of Olhão is close by and a bus service runs from near the site entrance to the centre for its many shops, bars and restaurants and to the port from where ferries run to the islands and their quiet beaches. Days out could include a visit to the nearby resort of Faro or a trip to Spain for a visit to the shops or a restaurant.
Facilities at Camping Olhão
Eleven sanitary blocks are adequate, kept clean even when busy and are well sited so that any pitch is close to one. Two blocks have accessible facilities. Laundry. Excellent supermarket. Kiosk. Restaurant/bar. Café and general room with cable TV. Playgrounds. Swimming pools (all year, charged in season). Tennis courts. Bicycle hire. Internet at reception and Free WI-FI
Directions to Camping Olhão
From A22 (Algarve-Spain) take exit 15 for Olhão, turn west on EN125, towards town and almost immediately south into Pinheiros de Marim (site signed). Site is back off the road on the left. Look for very large, white, triangular entry arch.
