Once upon a time, all small French towns had a municipal campsite; Chécy still has. If you want a campsite with all services and facilities, then this is not for you. However, it is personal, pretty, perfectly clean and outside the gate you have the wide reaches of the Loire all to yourself. There is no restaurant, bar, shop or swimming pool, but these are all provided by the town which is a ten minute walk away. With 34 neat, shaded pitches (6A electricity and water) and a social marquee, this could be the authentic Loire-side experience you have been waiting for.

Franck and Valérie direct this site on behalf of the Mairie. It is very basic but organised, tidy and well cared for. Bicycle and kayak hire can be arranged by the site, which is right next to the Loire and the Orléans - Chécy canal, so there are many opportunities for canoeing, walking and cycling, or just enjoying the flora and fauna of the riverbank. Swimming is dangerous at this point of the river, but there is a public pool in town with concessions for campers.

From A10 take exit 14 and follow signs to Chécy. Camping is signed from the edge of town and is next to the river.
