Alan Rogers Review of Camping Les Saumonards

Camping Les Saumonards is a large site in the middle of a forest with direct access to the beach of Île d'Oléron in the Charente-Maritime. The site has 289 pitches, of which 282 are for touring units and have a 5-amp hook-up point. There are seven lodge tents for hire. The pitches are without demarcation and have sandy soil. The site is situated under mature woodland, which provides ample shade in the summer. Camping Les Saumonards is a basic site with all the amenities needed for an enjoyable stay. During the summer, a food van visits daily, offering quick and tasty meals.

The town of Saint-Georges-d'Oléron is a charming little town with a harbour, a market, and a number of shops and restaurants. The 11th-century Romanesque church, Église Saint-Georges, is a must-see. Fort Boyard is a fascinating 19th-century fort located in the middle of the Rade de l'île d'Aix. You can take a boat trip to the fort and explore its ramparts and dungeons.
