Alan Rogers Review of Camping le Deffay
A family-managed site, Camping le Deffay is a refreshing departure from the usual formula in that it is not over-organised or supervised and has no tour operator units. The 170 good-sized, fairly level pitches (103 for touring) have pleasant lake views. They are either on open grass, on shallow terraces divided by hedges, or informally arranged in a central, slightly sloping wooded area. All have 10A electricity. The site’s landscaping is designed to blend harmoniously with the natural surroundings, and a large, well-stocked lake is available for fishing or kayaking.
The bar, restaurant, and covered pool are located within the old courtyard area of the smaller château, which dates from before 1400. The large, unfenced lake, which is well-stocked for fishermen and even has free pedalos for children, is a significant attraction of the site.
The landscape is wonderfully natural and the site blends well with the rural environment of the estate, lake and farmland which surround it. Alpine-style chalets overlook the lake and fit in well with the environment and the larger château (built in 1880 and now offering B&B) stands slightly away from the camping area but provides a wonderful backdrop for an evening stroll. The site is close to the Brière Regional Park, the Guérande Peninsula and La Baule and is just 20 minutes’ drive from the nearest beach.
Facilities at Camping le Deffay
The main toilet block is well maintained, if a little dated, and is well equipped, including washbasins in cabins, Accessible facilities, and a baby bathroom. Laundry facilities. Shop. Bar and small restaurant with takeaway. Heated swimming pool with sliding cover and paddling pool (all season). Play area. TV. Entertainment in season, including mini club. Fishing and pedaloes on the lake. Torches useful. WiFi throughout (charged).
