Developed over the years on what was once a working farm, this is a friendly, relaxed, three-hectare site, very different from the sophisticated sites that abound in this area. Of the 208 pitches, 70 are available for tourers, the rest being occupied by mobile homes and chalets, of which 49 are available for hire. Touring pitches are large and attractively laid out, separated by hedges, with mature trees to give shade, and with electricity and water close by. There is a pleasant solar-heated pool with paddling pool and jacuzzi, and an old barn is used as a games room and for occasional events in high season. English and Spanish are spoken.

Although there are no other facilities on site, shops, bars and restaurants are either within walking distance or a short drive away in Saint Hilaire-de-Riez or Saint Jean-de-Monts. Good sandy beaches are within easy reach and a bus service passing the site will take you north to Saint Jean or south to the busy fishing port and resort of Saint Gilles Croix-de-Vie with its quayside bars and restaurants, its weekly markets, its bustling marina and its pedestrianised shopping streets. The Vendée has a remarkable choice of well-documented attractions and activities, including museums, theme parks, a zoo, gardens and châteaux with ‘son et lumière’ or historical reconstructions in which you can participate. Or why not escape to the nearby ‘Bocage’ and explore its slow-moving waterways in a canoe or a traditional punt?

Three traditional sanitary blocks vary in style and quality but all are kept clean and provide hot showers, washbasins in cabins and facilities for laundry. En-suite accessible unit. Baby room. Directions to Camping le Both d’Orouet

St Jean-de-Monts is 55 km. northwest of La Roche-sur-Yon. The site is on the D38 St Jean-de-Monts-St Gilles road at Orouët and is clearly signed in the middle of the village.
