Alan Rogers Review of Camping Lac des Varennes
This extensive site is located near the massive forest of Bercé in the Vallée du Loir and is on the shore of the lake from which it takes its name. There are 250 pitches here, with 170 for tourers, all grassy and with electrical connections (10A). Many also have lake views. The site has its own sandy beach (with a beach volleyball court) and canoes are available to rent. In high season, various activities are organised including a club for children and riding. Mobile homes are available for rent. A gate gives free access to the Base de Loisirs which offers a variety of water- and land-based activities. The area is a paradise for walkers and cyclists, with more than 300 km. of tracks through the Forêt de Bercé; the site owners will be pleased to recommend routes.
Nearby are the vineyards of Côteaux de Loir whilst the nearest point on the River Loire is just 50 km. to the south, so visits to some of its famous châteaux are possible.
Facilities at Camping Lac des Varennes
Three traditional sanitary blocks are kept clean and provide pushbutton showers, some washbasins in cubicles and a mix of British and squat style toilets. Washing machines and dryer. Basic accessible facilities, Motorhome services. Shop, snack bar and takeaway (July/Aug). Simple bar with games and TV. Play area. Organised entertainment (July/Aug). Direct access to lake with fishing and swimming. WiFi on part of site.
Directions to Camping Lac des Varennes
Marçon is 50 km. southeast of Le Mans. From A28 exit 26, head east to Château du Loir, turn south on D938/D338 (Caen-Tours) and cross the Loir. Then head northeast on D305 to Marçon, and turn west in village centre to Base de Loisirs and site on right in 1 km.
