Alan Rogers Review of Camping la Rueda
La Rueda is a pleasant Spanish beach site with 370 pitches, 350 for touring, 167 of these with electricity (4/6/10A). Some pitches are in a small pine wood. The circular central area has flat, grassy pitches set amongst mature trees with bamboo canopies providing extra shade; the final area has grassy pitches without electricity and with little shade. Through a gate at the far corner a road takes you, via a low bridge, under the railway to a long sandy beach. An elevated bar and snack bar serving simple, inexpensive fare overlooks the swimming pool. Below is a well stocked shop. The site is next to a railway line, so some noise is inevitable, but no trains run between midnight and 07.00.
The site is within easy walking distance of shops, bars and restaurants, and three supermarkets are close by. Cubelles is on a popular stretch of coast roughly half way between Tarragona and Barcelona, offering opportunities to cycle or drive to other beaches and to more bustling resorts, or to take the bus or train to one (or both) of the big cities. Tarragona is a fascinating mixture of ancient and modern, with Roman and traditional Spanish architecture close to modern shopping centres. The many attractions of Barcelona include Las Ramblas and Gaudí’s incredible Sagrada Familia cathedral.
Facilities at Camping la Rueda
Two traditional sanitary blocks, one on each side of the site, are clean and have controllable showers and some washbasins in cabins. Baby cubicle. Accessible Facilities in one block (on demand in low season). Washing machines and dryer. Shop, bar and snack bar with takeaway (15/6-11/9, weekends in low season). Swimming pool (23/6-11/9). Basic playground and grassy area for ball games. Internet room. WiFi over site (charged). Children’s club with occasional family events (July/Aug).
Directions to Camping la Rueda
Cubelles is 50 km. southwest of Barcelona. From C32 coastal motorway leave at exit 13 for Cubelles and join C31 west. Site is a short distance on left (at 146.2 km). You have to go around the roundabout and back on yourself; site is second exit on right after small bridge.
