The small village of Saissac, on the edge of the Black Mountains, is a scenic base for exploring the rich heritage of the Languedoc-Roussillon. La Porte d’Autan is in a peaceful, verdant location (the site is reminiscent of an English park) within walking distance of the village, which has a good range of amenities, including a bakery, butcher, pharmacy, vet and petrol station. The 2.5 acre site’s 69 level, grass pitches are separated by hedges and have access to 6A electricity. They are well shaded by mature trees. On Mondays in July and August, campers are invited to enjoy a welcome drink and sample some of the local produce.

This is very much Cathar country and the scenery is very special, very green and wooded with amazing castles, and caves amongst small mountains and tiny villages. However, it is the views across the valley, where the autoroute and Canal du Midi run which claim your attention. The Canal du Midi, the masterpiece of John Paul Rique, is well worth seeing, and Spain makes a good day out.

Directions to Camping la Porte d’Autan

West on A61, exit 22 (Bram). At roundabout take 2nd exit onto D4 (Bram), continue on this road as far as Saissac. At junction turn left onto D629 (signed Cammazes and Gendarmarie), proceed to top of hill and mini roundabout, take 2nd exit by service station and butchers. Continue to site.
