Alan Rogers Review of Camping la Nizière
La Nizière is a spacious campsite in a woodland setting beside two lakes extending over 23 hectares. It is in a region of farmland, forests and hundreds of lakes. There are 70 pitches, most with electricity (6A), and long leads are advised. There is a small open grass section near the lake with good views. A larger, heavily shaded section further back has stony pitches, many occupied by seasonal caravans. There are also eightchalets close to a lake. The lakes are well stocked with fish, making the site popular with anglers. There are over 40 km. of walking and cycling tracks around the site.
The surrounding area covers a large flat plain between the rivers Saône, Rhône and Ain. The nearby town of Chalamont has a range of shops, bars and restaurants and there are many interesting places to visit.
Facilities at Camping la Nizière
Three clean, small basic blocks with many squat style WCs, Accessible facilities, quite a distance from some of the pitches. Washing machine. Motorhome services (charged). Snack bar, restaurant and takeaway (all season). Games room/TV. Lake fishing but no bathing. Tennis. Pétanque. No barbecues. Some family activities in high season.
Directions to Camping la Nizière
St Paul-de-Varax is on N83 between Bourg-en-Bresse and Lyon. Leave N83 at St Paul-de-Varax, take D70b to St Nizier-le-Désert, then D90 to site (well signed from village).
