Camping La Forêt du Pilat is one of a number of sites in this area that is dominated by the massive Dune du Pyla. The dune has to be negotiated in order to get to the beach (either over it or around, which is about 3 km), and the virtual wall of bright sand is all you have by way of a view to the east. This is a very well kept site with good facilities, easy access for all types of unit, and plenty of attractions for adults and children. Set on a gentle slope, mixed pine and oak trees give shade on most pitches.

There are 24 pitches on hardstanding for motorhomes, and all of the remaining touring pitches (on well-kept grass) have good access to water and electricity. A large area nearest to the dune has unserviced pitches for tents. Modern mobile homes for hire have their own area. The pool is perhaps a little basic, being a simple rectangular affair with loungers, but no separate paddling area for the little ones. However the other facilities are very good, with a large bar and terrace with takeaway food available, and a separate more up-market restaurant. For more active campers there are quite good sports facilities on site, and nearby a network of cycle paths, GR walks, horse riding and (for the really brave) paragliding. Dances and games evenings are on offer in high season.

Six unisex toilet blocks (not all open in low season) have good facilities. Bath with showers and mats for babies. Facilities for disabled visitors (key from reception). Washing machines and dryers. Motorhome service area. Well stocked shop. Bar, takeaway and restaurant (April-Oct). Swimming and paddling pools (May-Sept). Tennis court (free except in July/Aug). Minigolf. Boules. Bicycle hire. Play area. Children’s club (with clowns) in July/Aug. No charcoal barbecues. WiFi (charged).

Location

From A63 (north or south) take A660 towards Arcachon. At La Teste turn off towards Dune du Pyla and at Dune car park roundabout take left turn towards Biscarrosse. Site is 2 km. on the right.
