Alan Rogers Review of Camping La Commanderie
Camping La Commanderie is a family-friendly campsite located in Rustiques, a little village, and is situated about 10 km away from the medieval city of Carcassonne, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On-site, there are 77 touring pitches to choose from with 6Amp electric hookup points available. Pitches are large, and all have different layouts but are all surrounded by mature hedging, giving privacy to each pitch. 17 accommodation units are also available to hire.
On-site facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, which is open from may and has plenty of sun loungers dotted around the pool to relax on and soak up the summer sun. The bar and reception area has a large outdoor terrace and has great views of the surrounding area and offers a variety of meals, including a charcuterie board and light snacks at lunchtime and a full menu is offered in the evenings. Musical entertainment is scheduled regularly here in the evenings during the summer too. There is a free weekly historical tour of the local village, which is very detailed and translated into many languages by an enthusiastic, passionate guide in exchange for a voluntary donation at a small museum of mainly ceramic and glass shards etc, from bygone civilisations. There is an Intermarche, a 5-minute drive from the campsite, and you can cycle to the Canal du Midi (about 10\15 mins), where you can then cycle along the Canal's pathway to Carcassone.
