Alan Rogers Review
Camping la Chesnays is situated in the Medoc region of Aquitaine. Located six kilometres from the beach, and at the edge of the vast forest which stretches throughout Aquitaine, this is a good base to enjoy the sea- and land-based activities that this region has to offer. The site has 44 large (100-130 m2) pitches for touring caravans, most with 10A electricity supply. There are mobile homes and chalets to rent. There are excellent watersports amenities in the area, including fishing, canoeing, kite surfing, sailing and surfing. If watersports are not to your taste, archery, bike tours, riding, go-karts, motorcross, adventure park and tennis are all available close by.
Montalivet has a colourful open-air market with over 200 stalls. Further afield, the Gironde is a region rich in culture, with a history dating back through the centuries. Turn north out of the campsite and visit the Saxon church of Soulac-sur-Mer. Head east and you will be deep in the world renowned Medoc vineyards. To the south, the great city of Bordeaux (80 km) is certainly worth a visit.
Toilet block with facilities for disabled visitors. Washing machine. Shop (1/5-20/9). Takeaway (July/Aug). Swimming pool with sunbathing terrace (June-Sept). Play area. Bicycle hire. Communal barbecue areas no charcoal barbecues on pitches. Free WiFi on part of site.
LocationFrom the north on A10 exit at Saintes. Take N105 towards Royan then the ferry across the Gironde (30 mins) to Verdon. Watch out for queues in high season. Then take D1215 south. After Vensac, turn right onto D102. Finally, from Vendays-Montalivet, take D101 to campsite.
