Camping Kamemi can be found close to Ribera in Sicily’s southwest corner, just 300 m. from the sea. There are 250 pitches here (electricity 6A Europlug) – some are shaded, others make use of artificial screening. Thirteen mobile homes are available for rent. There is a typically Sicilian restaurant (with some excellent local fish cuisine) and a pizzeria. A snack bar incorporates an ice cream parlour with typical Sicilian ice creams. Other on-site amenities include two swimming pools, a tennis court and a football pitch. In high season, a lively activity and entertainment programme is on offer, including Latin American music and a summer carnival.

For those interested in birdwatching, a colony of European bee-eaters was nesting on site when we visited, and provided much entertainment. The city of Agrigento is a worthwhile day trip. Agrigento is renowned as the site of the ancient Greek city of Akragas, one of the richest and most famous colonies. Much of the site remains unexcavated but a stunning complex of seven monumental Greek temples is widely considered one of the best preserved Greek sites outside Greece itself, and has been classed a World Heritage site by UNESCO.

Two new blocks have small shower cubicles (token), open style washbasins with cold water, but no toilets - these are in pool area. En-suite accessible unit (key). Laundry. Shop (1/5-30/9). Restaurant (1/6-15/9). Outdoor swimming pools (10/5-15/9, hats compulsory). Tennis. Football pitch. Playground. Activity and entertainment programme (July/Aug). Diving trips arranged. Mobile homes for rent. WiFi (charged).

Directions to Camping Kamemi

From Agrigento, head up the coast towards Ribera on SS115. Before reaching Ribera turn off to Secca Grande and then follow signs to the site.
