Camping International is a small site in the Belgian Ardennes, located on the banks of the River Ourthe. Although in a French-speaking area, it has a very Dutch ambience. The 60 pitches (20 given over to seasonal caravans) are of a good size, and most have (metered) electrical connections. A central area is available for groups. The campsite tavern, which also houses reception, serves a selection of bar meals to eat in or take away.

A wide range of activities is available in the area, including canoeing on the Ourthe, climbing, raft building, abseiling, caving and mountain biking. More sedately, there are various old buildings and monuments to discover, often tucked away in sleepy villages and picturesque market towns. There is occasional railway noise.

There is plenty to do for children, including discos, various sports, scavenger hunts and face painting. A small collection of farm animals can also be visited. The nearby village of Bornal-sur-Ourthe has shops and a choice of bars and restaurants, some just across the river, and a lively Sunday market in walking distance from the camping. There is also a railway station there. This is excellent walking country and the site’s friendly owners will be very pleased to recommend possible routes. School groups use the site in June and September and put the sanitary facilities under some pressure, but were well behaved when we visited.

Facilities at Camping International

The basic sanitary facilities are adjacent to the tavern and have preset showers, and cold water to washbasins (cabins for ladies). No accessible facilities. Bar. Snack bar. Takeaway. Play area. Bicycle hire. Canoeing. Activity and entertainment programme. Direct river access. Fishing (licence needed). WiFi in the reception area (charged).

Directions to Camping International

Bomal is 50 km. southeast of Namur. From the E411 Brussels/Luxembourg motorway leave at exit 18 for Assesse. Head south on N4 as far as Sinsin and turn east on N929 and N933 as far as le Petit Han. Then take N983 to Barvaux-sur-Ourthe and N86 to Bomal. Turn west on N683 to site on left after bridge.
