Camping Il Collaccio
Italy, Umbria, Castelvecchio di Preci
Alan Rogers Review
Castelvecchio di Preci is tucked away in the tranquil heights of the mountainous Umbrian countryside, as is Camping Il Collaccio, which is set on a hillside. The 100 or so terraced touring pitches, with shade and 6A electricity, have stunning views. The friendly family have run the business well for over 30 years. A dip in the pools is wonderfully cooling in summer, and an evening meal, whilst taking in the views of the lush green vegetation of the surrounding hills, is a must (try the wild boar!). A clean, crisp and tranquil place, with a really pleasant feel.
Very popular salami making (no preservatives) and Umbrian cookery courses take place over Easter and New Year, and the products can be bought in the shop and sampled in the excellent restaurant. It is too high for vines here, but try the Umbrian wines carried in the cellar. The area is famous for lentils – a speciality is the soup. Another interesting feature is truffle cultivation on the lower slopes of the site. Thousands of trees have been planted here over the years.
Four modern sanitary blocks spaced through the site have mostly British style WCs, cold water in washbasins and hot, pre-mixed water in showers and sinks. Facilities for disabled visitors. Washing machine. Motorhome services. Bar. Restaurant and takeaway. Shop (basics, seasonal). Two swimming pools (Seasonal). Play area. Tennis. Boules. Entertainment in high season. Excursions. WiFi over part of site (charged). Bungalows and chalets to rent.
Approach on the A14-E55 down the east coast, then via autoroute approach on SS17 from Civitanova Marche to Polverina, then left on the SS209. Look for Campeggio sign (no site name) 8 km. from Preci. Ensure you leave the site down the hill on the unsigned one way system.Link to campsite location map on google
