Het Amsterdamse Bos is a large park to the southwest of Amsterdam, one corner of which has been specifically laid out as the city’s municipal campsite and is now under family ownership. Close to Schiphol Airport (expect some noise), it is a walk/bus and a metro ride into central Amsterdam.

The site is well laid out alongside a canal, with open pitches on separate flat lawns, mostly backing onto pleasant hedges and trees, with several areas of paved hardstandings. It takes 400 touring units, with 100 electrical connections (10A) and some with cable TV. An additional area is available for tents and groups. Some pitches can become very wet in the rain. The site has a modern reception, the former restaurant is now a cooking and dining area, and there are modern cabins to rent.

A suitable base for visiting Amsterdam, a local bus service to the city is just 300 m. from the site. There is free WiFi on-site, but we found it difficult to access.

Three modern sanitary blocks are light and airy with showers (on payment). Facilities for babies and accessible facilities. Laundry facilities. Motorhome services. Gas supplies. Small shop with basics. Fresh bread from reception. Cooking and dining area. Play area. Bicycle hire. Internet and free WiFi over site. Twin-axle caravans are not accepted.

Directions to Camping Het Amsterdamse Bos

Amsterdamse Bos is west of Amstelveen. From the A9 motorway take exit 6 and follow N231 to site (second traffic light).
