Camping des Alouettes, located in the Perigord Limousin Nature Park, 25 kilometres west of Limoges, is run by a young Dutch couple who will do all they can to ensure your stay is enjoyable. The site has 68 large, level, grass pitches, mostly open, all with 10A electricity. Almost all pitches enjoy panoramic views of the area. There is a mixture of mature and young trees providing some shade and pitches are separated by new shrubs or hedging. Six mobile homes and three safari tents are to rent. On arrival you are given a guided tour and an explanation of what is available both on and off site, supplemented by extensive tourist information at reception.
There are various walking and cycle routes leading from the site through the peaceful unspoilt countryside; maps are available from reception. The nearby village of Cognal-la-Forêt (1 km) has a swimming lake with a beach and a small range of shops, bars and a restaurant. The many tourist attractions include Oradour-sur-Glane, the poignant World War II memorial village, and Limoges with its porcelain museum and Parc Bellevue for children are easily reached by car. For those enjoying a longer stay in the area, the site is well placed for exploring parts of the Richard the Lionhart castles route.
