Alan Rogers Review of Camping de l’Ile Auger
This traditional, good value site is well placed for exploring the old Medieval town of Chinon. It lies alongside the River Vienne with views of the impressive château, which has a museum to Joan of Arc and was once the home of England’s Henry II. A five minute walk over the bridge takes you to the château and town centre. The 277 level pitches are numbered but not separated and trees provide some shade. All have 8/12A electricity (long leads may be needed). Four tents are now available to rent. Nearby are châteaux at Ussé, Azay-le-Rideau and Villandry and the abbey at Fontevraud.
Facilities at Camping de l’Ile Auger
The main toilet block by the entrance is in need of refurbishment but is clean and sound with all the usual facilities. Three small blocks around the rest of the site have WCs and washbasins with cold water. Motorhome services. Laundry facilities. Playground. Boules court. Fishing. Canoes. Barrier locked 22.00-07.00. A warden lives on site. WiFi (charged).
