The town of Embrun, ‘le petit Nice’ of the Alps, lying in the Durance valley between Les Ecrins (the largest National Park in France) and the Queyras valley, is a pivotal point for exploring this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Situated between Gap and Briançon, the roads are well marked and easily negotiated. Les Grillons, family owned, although lacking somewhat in sophistication, has a friendly and peaceful ambience (little English is spoken). Across the valley from Embrun, it has 95 grassy pitches set in rounded alcoves with trees offering separation and some shade; 89 are used for touring and all have electricity (3-10A). Trapper tents and lodges are available to rent.

The site is 850 m. high and a short ride gives access to alpine meadows of stunning beauty – a paradise for keen walkers and cyclists. The resorts in the area are well known for winter recreation. The summer season is particularly short – the possibility of quite cool nights contrasting sharply with hot days.

Facilities at Camping Caravaning les Grillons

Basic sanitary provision offers the usual facilities with warm water, British and squat style toilets and a baby bath, but no Accessible facilities, Laundry facilities. Very simple snacks (July/Aug). Bread to order. Two medium sized unheated swimming pools (1/7-15/9). Tennis. Skateboard ramps. Boules. Play area. Large adjoining field for extra activities.

Directions to Camping Caravaning les Grillons

From Gap take N94 towards Briançon. Approaching Embrun, at first roundabout, turn right on D40 signed Les Orres. After crossing a river bridge (1 km) turn left on D340. Shortly turn left (site signed) and the site is 400 m. on the right.
