This is a very friendly, pleasant site, in the department du Nord with a strong Flanders influence. There is a really warm welcome here. Set just behind the village of Buysscheure, the site has just 29 pitches separated by trees and bushes. All are for touring units and each pair shares a light, 6A electricity connections, water point and rubbish container. Access from narrow approach roads can be difficult, although once on site there are several pitches available for extra large units. A small, fenced fishing lake contains some large carp. A bonus is that Bernadette can arrange all the documentation for British visitors’ pets. Campers with dogs are welcome. English is spoken.
Popular with British visitors, the peaceful atmosphere at La Chaumière gives a feeling of being miles away from anywhere, yet the attractive city of Saint Omer is just a short drive away. Day trips over the border into Belgium to visit WW1 sites around Ypres are possible. The site restaurant is popular with Bernadette herself doing the cooking. Visitors return year after year, some of them for several weeks at a time.
