This is a very friendly, pleasant site, under new ownership, in the department du Nord with a strong Flanders influence. There is a really warm welcome here. Set just behind the village of Buysscheure, the site has just 29 pitches separated by trees and bushes. 19 are for touring units and each pair shares a light, 6A electricity connections, water point and rubbish container. 10 pitches for static caravans. Access from narrow approach roads can be difficult, although once on site there are several pitches available for extra large units. A small, fenced fishing lake contains some large carp, fishing is free but put the fish back.. A bonus is that local vet can arrange all the documentation for British visitors’ pets. Campers with dogs are welcome. English is spoken.

Popular with British visitors, the peaceful atmosphere at La Chaumière gives a feeling of being miles away from anywhere, yet the attractive city of Saint Omer is just a short drive away. Day trips over the border into Belgium to visit WW1 sites around Ypres are possible. The site restaurant is popular with Martine herself doing the cooking. Visitors return year after year, some of them for several weeks at a time.

Modern unisex toilet facilities are simple and small in number, with two WCs, one shower and one washbasin cabin. Accessible facilities (a toilet and separate washbasin/shower room). Laundry facilities. Motorhome services. Bar (daily) and restaurant (weekends only, all day, in season). Heated outdoor pools (July/Aug). Play area. Minigolf. Archery. Fishing. Dog exercise area. WiFi in the bar (free).

Directions to Camping Caravaning la Chaumière

From Calais take A16 towards Dunkirk. Take exit 53 on the D600 towards St Omer. At crossroads turn left on D11 (Cassel). At roundabout turn right on D928 to Lederzeele. Turn left signed Buysscheure. Site is signed in the village. There is some single track road on approaching the site.
