Alan Rogers Review of Camping Caravaning Château de Montrouant
A small, pretty site beside a lake in the grounds of an imposing château, in a steep valley in the Charolais hills. There is shade from mature trees and the 45 pitches are on reasonably flat grassy terraces, separated by hedges. Some pitches overlook the lake and some are next to a field. This site is best for smaller units as the approach roads are narrow. It quickly becomes full mid July-mid August and access becomes difficult with extra traffic. Motorhome owners should always check in advance as there may not be a suitable pitch. Caravans and motorhomes are towed off site if required.
The best times for visiting could be from late June-mid July or the second half of August. The enthusiastic owner organises several unusual and interesting activities during the main season, including model boat building, walks, wine tours, etc. Good fishing is possible in the site’s lakes and is a feature of the site.
Facilities at Camping Caravaning Château de Montrouant
The sanitary facilities are housed in a part of the château. They include washbasins in cabins. Laundry facilities. Basic supplies available at reception. Small open-air bar/restaurant/takeaway for evening barbecues (only open certain evenings). Swimming pool with secluded sunbathing area. Half-court tennis. Fishing. Torches useful. WiFi.

Site is to the west of Mâcon and can be reached from A6 (exit 29) via the N79 to Charolles (50 km). Take D25 southeast for 20 km. to Gibles.
